Running the gamut of human experience one cannot avoid encountering the dichotomy of intellect and emotion. For eons man has relied on intellect to undergird society, primarily as the basis for law. There exists now, however, the powerful and impassioned initiative by the Liberal wing of Western society to reforge our culture entirely from the unrefined pig iron of emotion, though few things could be more destructive or ultimately chaotic.

While it is the hallmark of Liberal policy to turn on end all traditional societal norms (sexuality, gender roles, and the relationship of church and state to name a few), the exchange of logic for feeling is among the most detrimental. Intellect and logic are born of truth already known and seek after truths not yet discovered. Truth offers us something cosmically larger and morally better than ourselves and is unbiased, unaffected, and absolute. Were the universe to suddenly collapse and all matter instantly dematerialize, two and two would still be four, lying would still be wrong, and Ronald Reagan would still have been the greatest American president since Abraham Lincoln. (You will notice that I am dismissing the Liberal notion that truth is not absolute in light of the fact that the very nature of the tenet is self-nullifying and hence intellectually dishonest.)

Emotion, on the other hand is frail, fleeting, and unreliable. It is altered by a word or a look; by weather, music, or hormonal changes. Truly, any foundation comprised of emotion can lead only to rapid collapse and utter destruction. An emotion-based morality will consistently result in anarchy as man does what is right in his own eyes, seeking only his own personal pleasure. He is accountable to no one, for who can call him to account if truth is not greater than desire? By substituting emotion for intellect, we make the most constant, powerful, and stable force in the universe–truth– subservient to the most transient and volatile. Our will reigns supreme; we become God.

A natural outcropping of an emotion-based philosophy is the Offensive Words Doctrine which attempts to silence all speech that is deemed offensive. You may also know this by the term “political correctness.” The intellectual bankruptcy inherent in this movement is not fathomable by any means known to mankind. It operates on the basis of relativism and is designed specifically to silence truth which has never regarded man’s feelings in any capacity. In order to unravel the deceptive nature of this half-baked crusade against free speech, it is first necessary to examine its fundamental tenets.

When the PC crowd attempts to silence a certain viewpoint, they do so by claiming that it is offensive. This choice of words suggests that the accused set forth with the explicit intent to cause harm. More often than not, however, we see that, while there was no intent to offend, there was explicit intent to be offended. It is, in fact, often the case that when one is offended it was their decision to be so. For example, though the words “Merry Christmas” have never been uttered in a caustic manner, many Atheists choose to be offended by them nonetheless. They then use this “offense” as fodder for taking from Christians the freedom to publicly mention the name of their own holiday. In fact, I am offended that they are offended (a logical impasse, I know, but their lack of familiarity with reason renders the irony of little effect to them).

Furthermore, to believe that we two-hundred seventy-five million Americans can coexist without any interpersonal offense is to seek an impossible utopia which deliberately ignores the rudiments of human nature. Political correctness is, however, designed not to bring about this naive pipe dream but rather to silence those who disagree with the Left–those who think logically and believe that we are accountable to a higher power (God, for those of you who are unfamiliar). If offensive words are impermissible then the power to silence belongs to him who is first offended. It is no mystery that they race to get there. By branding any word, custom, or belief “offensive,” they seek to have it forever silenced and therefore further increase their stranglehold on the forum of permissible discussion.

We must not, even for a moment, believe the lie that political correctness is benign or in any way beneficial. It is an assault on free speech like we in America have never seen in our lifetime. It is not equally applied, nor will it ever be; it is to be used only against Christians, Conservatives, and patriotic Americans. Anyone who offers a substantive challenge to the Left can plan on being accused of being offensive; Liberals cannot win logically so they must silence their opposition in order to maintain any semblance of credibility. The only way for those with no grounding or moral compass to overcome their adversaries is to make the absolutes of truth and morality, themselves, contemptible and therefore, by extension, discredit those who adhere to them.

So take heart when your beliefs are excoriated and you are constantly slandered, for Liberal crosshairs rest on those who represent the greatest threat to them; those who are reaching people with truth and reason–an act they will not excuse (remember, free speech is only for the tolerant). This is your cue to be louder and more vociferous than ever before for they can only win if we actually do shut up.
